The present drawing was probably intended as a design for a small bronze. Comparable drawings for similar works are in the Uffizi, L. Monaci, Disegni di Giovan Battista Foggini (1652-1725), exhib. cat., Florence, Uffizi, 1977, nos. 31-3, figs. 29-31. The design of such bronzes is inspired by designs by Soldani-Benzi: a rock divided in two at the base with figures on the top.
Similar figures of Jupiter and Juno to those in the present sheet are in a study by Foggini in the Uffizi, L. Monaci, op. cit., no. 32, fig. 32. The Uffizi drawing differs, however, as one of the nude figure is replaced by an eagle, another presents armour to Jupiter, and Juno's left arm is more outstreched
