Lot Essay

This is most probably Hetoum II, the son of Oshin who died in 1110. According to one Armenian manuscript he owed his position to Alexius I, but another claims it was John II who appointed him. The Hethoumides were a powerful family, traditionally allies of the empire, and longstanding rivals of the Roupenides. It was the Hethoumides who eventually succeeded the Roupenides to the throne of Lesser Armenia in the 13th century.
