Amalric of Nesle, a simple and unworldly cleric, was prior of the Holy Sepulchre before Melisende engineered his election as Patriarch of Jerusalem in succession to Fulcher. He crowned Amalric king of Jerusalem (see lot 141), and celebrated the king's marriage to Maria Comnenus, great-niece of the emperor Manuel.
