Domenico Michiele was very active in the east and probably had designs on the Kingdom of Jerusalem. He commanded the Venetian fleet which defeated an Egyptian fleet off Ascalon in 1122, and he helped in the taking of Tyre in 1124 where the Venetians successfully negotiated privileges and occupied a section of the city.
