Anna Dalassene, wife of John Comnenus, the brother of Isaac Comnenus, was one of the principles in the move to place her son Alexis on the throne. When the young emperor was forced to leave the capital to face the Normans and the Petchenegs, he left the government in the hands of his mother. This explains her curious title on this seal.
