cover -- 1850 entire from Adelaide to London, rated "9", "1/4" and inscribed "p Symmetry", the reverse with superb strike of the framed "INDIA LETTER/FALMOUTH" (In.1) in blue across the join, the address panel with blue circular "G.P.O/SOUTH AUSTRALIA" datestamp; some faults and the flaps stuck down but still a most attractive and rare item. The use of this handstamp so long after the withdrawl of the Concessionary Rate remains something of a mystery, one possible explanation suggests that it may have been employed as a supplementary stamp when the office was handling a heavy volume of mail and the available Ship Letter handstamps were all being used.
