Lot Essay

Paul Maureaux immigrated from France to San Antonio, Texas in 1852. An advertisement in the San Antonio Herald from May 21, 1859 indicates that he was making furniture at that time. See Taylor and Warren, Texas Furniture: the cabinet makers and their work 1840-1880 (Austin, Texas, 1975).
