A PIECED AND QUILTED COTTON COVERLET, by Mary Secrist Newman, Freeburg, Pennsylvania, late 19th-early 20th Century, worked in sixteen squares of red and black and white printed calico in a variable star pattern, each square with a red star on a white printed calico ground with white calico sashing, the whole enclosed by a white calico border with rope quilting--81¾ x 80¼in.
