Lot Essay

The signature of the chartophylax John is to be found on a copy of the decision, taken at a synod, confirming the rights of the athonite monastery of Iviron over the monastery of Eleousa at Stroumitsa. The seal of the chartophylax is attached (Archives de l'Athos, XIV, Actes d'Iviron III, 1204-1328, ed. J Lefort, N Oikonomides, Denise Papachryssanthou and Hlne Mtrvli, Paris 1994, no.57, line 28-31). Philosophos is here a family name.
