Basil Pediadites, a eunuch, was katepan of Sicily during the reign of Michael IV the Paphlagonian. According to contemporary sources he was a mediocre general. This seal tells us that Basil held the important post of Duke of Antioch, commander of the best troops of the East. He was no doubt duke under Michael IV before being appointed to Sicily.
