Lot Essay

This is a piece of great historical interest. At this date the dukes of Thrace were responsible for the most important province of the empire, and it is remarkable therfore that a soldier from an unknown family should occupy such a position. The name Dryonites is known in only one other context, a poem of the twelth century.
