Giambattista Bodonin (1740-1813), of the Royal Press of Parma, Chief Printer to His Catholic Majesty, was one of the most famous printers of his day. This medal, engraved upon the title page of the Medaglia Bodoniana (Crisopoli 1811), was struck by order of the Council of Magistrates of Parma as an expression of their gratitude for the world-wide renown obtained by Bonodi for the press of Parma. According to Medaglia Bodoniana, four examples were struck in gold, 200 in silver, and 250 in bronze.
