Unused on cover / entire letter 1864 (Mar.) envelope (complete with contents) ex the Burckmyer correspondence from Summersville "pr Syren" to Liverpool, rated "11" in red crayon and with two Bahamas (6d.?) stamps removed, Bahamas double-arc d.s. for 10 April and arrival c.d.s. for 30 April on reverse; the writer announces his appointment as Captain in the Quartermaster Corps, to be stationed at Fort Pemberton, 5 miles west of Charleston, he also mentions the sinking of the U.S.S. Houatonic off Charleston by the C.S. submarine H.L. Hunley
