The attribution has been kindly suggested by Drs. C. Wansink of the RKD. Compare with the altarpiece of circa 1610/20 painted for the Oud-Katholieke Kerk, Delft (R. Schillemans, "Een keuze uit het kunstbezit van de Oud-Katholieke Kerk, etc.", in Antiek, XXIV, 1989/90, pp.138/41, fig.1). As pointed out by Schillemans, op. cit., p.140, the composition of this altarpiece is still firmly rooted in 16th Century tradition. The artist was born in Antwerp and moved to Delft circa 1598, where he became the most succesful painter of his time. Only a small number of works have so far been traced (see J. Briels, Vlaamse Schilders en de Dageraad van Hollands Gouden Eeuw 1585-1630, 1997, p.344).
