Le Roi boit

The artist is not recorded. One other picture, a copy after Adriaen Pietersz. van de Venne, is in the Muses Royaux des Beaux-Arts, Brussels (H. Pauwels et.al., Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Kunsten van Belgi, Inventarisatiecatalogus van de oude schilderkunst, p.149. no.4145, ill.). The original of the present lot is now probably lost. The composition is recorded in another copy, sold at the Sale F. Burton, Antwerp, 14 March 1927, lot 18, as H. Hals (W. Schulz, Cornelis Saftleven 1607-1681, Leven und Werken, etc., 1978, p.244, no.699D).
