AARDGLOBE Swildens' SCHOOLGLOBE. [c.1845]
A rare 16cm. diameter dutch terrestrial globe made up of twelve coloured printed gores, the equatorial and prime meridian graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days, the oceans showing ocean currents, the continents showing Wilkes Land, Van Diemens Land and Russich Amerika, coloured in outline red, green, yellow and orange and showing mountains, rivers, cities and towns (old abrasions and scuffs, some small areas of paper loss) within a separate but irremovable iron meridian circle over a paper Zodiac circle graduated in degrees, days of the houses of the Zodiac with names and pictures, and days of the month with names and compass directions, with an outer graduating in degrees in four quadrants and houses of the Zodiac with names and symbols, a short brass pointer fixed at an angle in Sagittarius and pointing around the Antarctic circle (old rubbing) on a turned ebonised plinth base with three bun feet
