A large twentieth-century armillary sphere, the 18cm. diameter terrestrial globe held on a brass rod at the centre with trade label reading COLUMBUS-VOLKSGLOBUS BEARBEITET VON C. LUTHER COLUMBUS-VERLAG G.M.B.H. BERLIN-LICHTERFELDE [c.1930] made up of twelve chromolithographed gores and two polar calottes with printed hour rings, the equatorial and prime meridian graduated in degrees, the ecliptic ungraduated, the oceans showing numerous ocean currents, the continents with nation states variously coloured, within a polished brass armillary with punched meridian circle and hour ring, raised on four brass quadrant supports on the back of a very large blackened bronze figure of Atlas with a fig leaf, atop a circular plinth base
