Mater Dolorosa

The prototype exists in numerous versions, both in the direction of the present copy and in reverse. One, in the same direction as the present lot, on canvas, 65.1 x 47 cm, was sold at Christie's London, 9 July 1999, lot 207, ill. A prime version in reverse is in the Pinacoteca, Cesena, inv. no.33 (F. Mac de Lpinay, Giovan Battista Salvi "Il Sassoferrato", 1990, p.62, no.14, ill).
