A Dutch colonial ivory cabinet
Ceylon, late 17th Century
Mounted overall with foliate-carved panels against a red damask ground, the hinged raised top enclosing a crimson damask open interior, above a hinged fall front centred by two panels decorated with mermaids, enclosing a fitted interior with a sliding panel simulated as three drawers, enclosing a narrow secret drawer, above a deep drawer with a Gothic facade, flanked to either side by two drawers, above a long drawer simulated as three drawers, minor restorations, the back possibly originally decorated conformingly
