A SIX-PIECE SILVER TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE WITH TRAY
MAKER'S MARK OF J.E. CALDWELL, PHILADELPHIA, 1905-1908
Comprising a hot water kettle on stand with lamp, coffee pot, teapot, cream jug, covered sugar bowl and waste bowl; each elaborately chased with flowerheads and scrolls, with tubular scroll handles with ivory insulators, the hinged covers similarly chased surmounted by globular finials, engraved on one side with a foliate monogram and, on the other, with the date 1905, the teapot and sugar bowl with 1906 and 1907; the shaped oval tray Gorham, retailed by J.E. Caldwell with foliate borders and reeded rim, with inset handles, the field chased with foliate scrolls and rocaille, also engraved with a foliate monogram, the reverse engraved with the date 1908, each initialled and dated A.K. 1940, marked under bases and reverse of tray--height of kettle on stand 11¼in., length of tray 24½in.
