This elegant giltwood mirror may derive from a design in Marot's Nouveaux Livre de Chemines la Hollandoise. A closely related mirror, idenitical in almost every detail, was previously incorporated in a chimneypiece in the residence of Baron de Smeth van Alphen on the Prinsessegracht in The Hague. This mirror, which was probaly executed by a meester beeldhouwer in The Hague, is illustrated in C. de Jonge W. Vogelsang, Hollndische Mbel und Raumkunst von 1650-1780, The Hague, 1922, p. 61, fig 104.
