A SILVER DINNER SERVICE
MAKER'S MARK OF SHREVE, BROWN & CO., BOSTON, 1857

Comprising a soup tureen and cover, a pair of sauce tureens and covers, and four matching salt cellars; each shaped oval on circular foot upon four beaded pad supports, the rim chased with a band of Vitruvian scrolls and applied with a string of beads, with ram's-head ring handles, the domed covers with beaded ring handles, the tureen with plated liner, engraved on sides with a crest, and on the other, J.C. & S.A.B. June 23rd 1859, the tureen engraved with armorials and the inscription John Carter & Sophia Augusta Brown June 23rd, 1859, marked under bases, also engraved F5, F6 and F19 under base --height of soup tureen and cover 14in.
