A large Chinese blue and white bowl
Kangxi (1662-1722)
Potted with steep sides and slightly flaring rim, moulded and painted with three rows of petal-shaped panels enclosing each a bird or butterfly among flowering branches of lotus, peony, plum blossom, mangolia, chrysanthemum or morning glory, the interior with a circular panel of hortensia issuing from promontory rockwork, surrounded by another four blossoming branches below a diaper-pattern band reserved with floral cartouches (some frittings)
