A pair of Japanese Imari dishes
Edo Period (Late 17th Century)
Painted in various coloured enamels and gilt on underglaze blue, the central roundel shaped as a flower-head enclosing a vase with exotic flowers amidst four butterflies within smaller roundels, the well and broad rim with shaped panels enclosing flowering peony reserved on a background of scrolling foliage, the reverse with scattered sprays of peony (some rubbing)
