Nicolaas Wicart was born in 1748 in Utrecht and married to Johanna Margrieta Geerling. In 1777 three of their children were baptised in Oud-Loosdrecht so it can be assumed that Wicart worked as a painter in Loosdrecht from this date onwards. Wicart is well known as a landscape water colourist and much of his work has been saved. In the autumn of 1784 he returned to Utrecht, where he died in 1815.
