Lot Essay

Death and decay are important themes in Pyne's work. Pyne states 'violence in nature, violence here has beauty. Death has beauty, death has a haunting element within it. Violence I sometimes discover in my paintings...'
The animals in both of these works are typically skeletal and contorted. Furthermore the fish is depicted with a human profile. In Pyne's work the distinctions between man and animal remain undefined, creating an intentional ambiguity.
