Lot Essay

According to the entry in the catalogue raisonn, the present work was painted in the appartment at Werderstrae 42 in November 1932. The years leading up to the Second World War were a time during which Felixmller produced a number of portraits. His interaction with wealthy sitters and especially Jewish patrons came to a halt with the rise to power of the National socialists. (see A. Wadsley. "From Weimar to Cold War - a biographical outline", in Conrad Felixmller - Between Politics and the Studio, S. Behr and A. Wadsley eds.,Leicester, 1994, p. 22).
