Lot Essay

Shortly after the war Schmidt-Rottluff moved to Berlin-Charlottenburg, where he taught as a professor at the Hochschule fr Bildende Knste.
The summer months he spent in the Taunus area near Frankfurt, in spring and autumn he lived in the Ticino.
The present stil life, painted in reminiscence of his earlier works around 1913, repeats the aerial point of perspective and, by pronouncing the contours of the objects with black outlines, transforms the subject of a traditional stillife into a dramatic Expressionist composition.
