Lot Essay

The present drawings are close in style to the work of Lady Sarah Elizabeth Amherst (1762-1838). Lady Amherst was the wife of William Pitt, 2nd Lord Amherst who became Governor-General of India in 1823. She was a pupil of George Chinnery and often copied his drawings.
