Lot Essay

It is possible that this watercolour was executed by James George (1782-1828) who served in the 7th Bengal native Infantry from 1799 to 1804, then transferring to the 25th Native Infantry. Works of his are held in the India Office Library (see M. Archer, British Drawings in the India Office Library, London, 1969, p. 202, nos. 335 and 336).
