In June 1900 Stein was appointed by the Indian Government to undertake archaeological explorations. This outline of Stein's routes of travel, together with paintings, including subjects from Bezeklik, Toyuk and Miran, form a small part of his several Central Asian expeditions which took place between 1900 and 1930.
