The lantern is conceived in the George IV 'Gothic' style popularised through R. Ackerman's The Repository of Arts, London, published through the 1820s, and by J. Buckler's Views of Eaton Hall, 1826.

A related Gothic hall lantern supplied to the Platt family of Bryn-y-Neuadd, Llanfairfechan, Gwynedd, was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 21 September 1995, lot 14.
