The octagonal hinged top centred by a marquetry star surrounded by radiating panels, enclosing a later metal liner, the sides with carrying handles, on square channelled legs with later brass castors, the brass banding possibly replaced

Lot Essay

Messrs. A. Hepplewhite & Co. in their The Cabinet Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788 (pl. 37) illustrated a 'Cellaret' pattern of this form, together with a plan for its bottle sections rayed from a central octagon compartment as appears on the inlay of this cistern.
