With foliate finial and sloping hinged top enclosing a lead-lined cellaret interior, above a castellated frieze, the tapering body on a plinth base with concealed brass caps and castors, minor restorations, the lock stamped 'BRAMAH PATENT S.MORDANT & CO MAKER'

Lot Essay

This Grecian palm-enriched cistern of plinth-supported and hermed sarcophagus form evolved from patterns for 'Sarcophagus' and 'Celeretts' published in Thomas Sheraton's The Cabinet Dictionary, 1803 (pl. 66) and George Smith's Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1808.
