Lot Essay

The Grecian bust of Homer reflects the antique style promoted by C. Percier and P. Fontaine's Recueil de Decorations Intrieures, 1801. A similar bust of Homer, modelled on the Farnese antiquity, features on an early 19th Century French bronze and marble clock illustrated in J. Ramon Colon de Carvajal, Catalogo de Relojes del Patrimonio Nacional, Madrid, 1987, p. 204.
