The spreading pediment above two double-glazed doors with scrolled cartouches, the conforming sides and quarter-veneered canted angles above small cabriole legs terminating in upswept acanthus-wrapped sabots and centred by a shaped apron with foliate mount, with three later glazed shelves, The back stamped 'J.POTARANGE' and 'JME', restorations, previously further mounted and possibly with further moulding below the pediment

Lot Essay

Jean Hoffenrichler, called Potarange, matre in 1767.

Of German origin, Potarange worked in rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine from the 1750s until 1782. He is mainly known for making tric-trac tables and guridons. A similar bibliothque with shaped glazed doors and stamped Andr-Antoine Lardin was sold at Sotheby's London, 18-19 May 1967, lot 198, and another was sold anonymously Paris, tude Ader Picard Tajan, 15 April 1989, lot 133.
