The map covers the east coast of Africa from Damietta to Mozambique and inland to the Wadai territories, and the west coast of Arabia from Port Said to Aden, with the routes of the expeditions of Bruce, Livingstone, Burton and Speke, Baker, Stanley, Cameron, Schweinfurth, Petherick, and Nachtigall hand-coloured in outline. Folded in a contemporary dark brown morocco cover, lettered in gilt (25.4 x 14cm.) Provenance: Dukes of Sutherland (double 'S' monogram bookplate surmounted by a ducal coronet).
