Voyage en Abyssinie dans les provinces du Tigr, du Samen et de l'Amhara. Paris: Lacrampe & Co. for Paulin, 1847-1848. 4 volumes including atlas, text vols. 8 (24.5 x 16cm.), atlas vol. 2 in 17 original parts (31 x 46cm.). Text with half-titles and 10 wood-engraved plates, unopened. (Some browning and spotting.) Atlas with 50 engraved plates, 33 coloured and finished by hand and 9 lithographic plans or maps, 5 folding, 2 hand-coloured, one double-page and hand-coloured. Text in later red cloth, atlas unbound as issued in original wrappers, all contained within a single later red cloth box.

A FINE SET. This work is an excellent late example of the very high quality publications that were produced in France to publicise the results of various 'grand voyages' undertaken during the first half of the 19th century. The atlas volume includes 33 coloured plates: 15 of mammals (1) and birds (14) after Prtre, 18 of insects and butterflies after Vaillant and others. (4)
