Of typical domed form, the watered steel surface worked into fine vertical bands of chevrons, decorated with gold damamscened floral sprays, the point overlaid by another steel conical panel similarly decorated, associated later spike, the sides with plume holders, a band of finely damascened gold inscription cartouches around the lower edge, the very fine chain mail skirt worked with brass and steel links forming complex geometric patterns, the longer pendant triangles with similarly worked inscriptions, noseguard missing, surface with very slight corrosion, much gold damascened decoration damaged
8in. (20cm.) high without skirt; skirt 15in. (38cm.) long

Lot Essay

The inscription around the lower edge begons with the Throne verse from the Qur'an, sura ii, al-baqarah, vv.254-256. The verse around the finial is sura lxviii, al-qalam, v.51.
