The rectangular panel with central interlaced kufic inscription below a triple cusped arch with pendant mosque lamp, the spandrels with deep hemispherical recessions flanked by arabesques, in a border of naskh koranic inscriptions with outer plain moulded stripe, repaired breaks, surface chips

Lot Essay

The inscription around the side is from the Qur'an, sura dcvii, al-qadr. The interlaced inscription in the centre is a clever arrangement of sura ii, al-baiqarah, part of v.137.
