Of slightly tapering form rising to the narrow neck with six-lobed bud finial, one side carved with a large rectangular panel containing a band of interlaced kufic above an arched panel, all spaces filled with an extensive kufic inscription, on slightly spreading foot

Lot Essay

The inscription, comprising one line immediately below the neck and continuing within the arch reads: bismillah, tasliyah, Qur'an sura iii, (al-'Imran), v.185, "the grave of ....... daughter of Abu'l Hasan 'Ali b.'Abu'l-Qasim b. Muhammad who died on the 25th of the month of Sha'ban of the year 543 (Friday 9th January 1149 AD)", shihada.
