The inscription reads: 1896, Tiran Effendi Gumush Guerdan

A similar vase with slightly different inscription but the same date was sold from the same collection at Sotheby's London, 14 October 1987, lot 450. These pieces, together with a third which bears a further different inscription within the roundels of otherwise identical decoration, indicate that the bottles were prepared with all but the inscription completed, and then decorated following the instructions of the purchaser. All bear the same date. A further rare feature is the monochrome decoration around the mouth and at each side.
