Lot Essay

The inscription under the foot reads Manoogin (the property of Manoog).

A very similar Safavid lustre bottle was sold in these Rooms, 19th April 1999, lot 62. While there is very considerable evidence of the strength of the Armenian community in the Julfa district of Isfahan, and a number of bronze items of this period are known with Armenian inscriptions, this appears to be the only example of Safavid lustre pottery with a tangible link to this community.
