Major E.C. Wren was Mentioned in Despatches by Lord Roberts (London Gazette 10.9.1901 refers). Having fought at Elandslaagte, in the Defence of Ladysmith (including the charge at Wagon Hill) and at Belfast, he was appointed the Commandant of Schoeman's Kloof.
