Burger Arthur Edward Knight served in General Ben Viljoen's Johannesburg Commando as a Despatch Rider. His Medal application form states that he served at the Battles of Elandslaagte, Spion Kop and Vaal Kranz. At the latter he was taken prisoner on 5.2.1900 and subsequently deported to Ceylon where he remained in Diyatawala Camp until he was repatriated to South Africa in July 1902.
