Captain F. Evans's awards represent a rare "full house" of South African Campaign Medals and are especially unusual to a Natal unit. Only 28 members of the Natal Police served in the Basutoland Campaign in 1880-81 and Major-General Sir John Dartnell and Evans were the only ones who served in the Bambata Rebellion some 25 years later.
