Major Dugald McKechnie served in the relief of Ladysmith with 37th Field Company, Royal Engineers. Amongst others he was present at the operation of 17 to 24.1.1900, the operations of 5 to 7.2.1900, and the action at Vaal Krantz; operations on the Tugela Heights (14 to 27.2.1900), and the action at Pieter's Hill. McKechnie was commissioned in 1896, promoted Captain in 1905 and Major in 1914. During the Great War he was Mentioned in Despatches in 1916. He retired in 1924.
