Lot Essay

Sold with the recipient's Band Master's stick, with upper, lower and central engraved silver bands (Hallmarks for London, 1909), the latter inscribed 'Presented to R.H. Nan Kervis by the Major Richardson, 8-7-1915', in case; an interesting scrap book with numerous music sheets, newspaper cuttings and other documentation, including original Imperial Light Infantry Certificate of Discharge and 1914-18 War Record of Service, this latter confirming participation in the German East Africa operations of 1916-17; binding worn; and a commemorative certificate for the 'Declaration of Peace, the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902'.

Private R.H. Nankervis' Queen's South Africa Medal is a scarce seven clasp example to a South African unit. His 'South Africa 1901' clasp was earned by subsequent service in the Prince of Wales's Light Horse.
