Major Benjamin Herbert Piercy, as a Captain in the Denbighshire Hussars, commanded a Company of the 20th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry (Roughriders) and was Mentioned in Despatches by Lord Roberts (London Gazette 10.9.1901 refers). The "Roughriders" were a Special Corps of the I.Y. raised by Lord Latham.

Piercy had been a Regular Officer in the 12th Lancers and took a commission in the Denbighshire Hussars before the Boer War. During the Great War he was the Second-in-Command of the South Nottinghamshire Hussars on Home Defence. Further details can be found in Who's Who 1937.
