Lot Essay

During the operations at Paardeberg the British ran very low on supplies so Lord Kitchener's Head Quarters requested urgent supplies of bread from Kimberley. Bread was cooked in the De Beers ovens and sent in a convoy to Paardeberg with an escort of 73 Kimberley Light Horse and 3 Cape Police.

Around 155 participants of the siege of Kimberley saw action at the Battle of Paardeberg.
